Caramel Apple Turkey Treats

Thanksgiving is almost here and classroom parties are going to be getting planned. Here is a quick party snack the kiddos will love.

Start with contrasting colored apples; green and reds. Using an apple slicer, cut up your apples removing the core.

Spoon caramel into a small round bowl. Smooth out the top and using candy corn place the beak and cut the white end off of another candy corn for the eyes. However you could be creative here by using chocolate chips or purchasing candied eyes.

Place the bowl of caramel on a plate and begin to layer the apple slices around the plate to make the turkey’s feathers, alternating the colors.

The finishing touch is the feet. taking an apple slice cut out the legs. Depending on your skill level, you can create a pair of great turkey legs 🙂 Delicious!!!

RECIPE FOR HOMEMADE STUFFING – THE BEST!!

This is our favorite recipe for homemade stuffing. We have tweaked it several times for our liking. We love the texture of celery so added more celery than onions. Some like onions, so using a large onion would be best if your family likes onions. We have used this recipe for about ten years now and it is my sister’s favorite too 🙂 

If making in the roaster, you will want to multiply the ingredients by 4!

Ingredients

  • 30 slices white bread, lightly toasted
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 6-8 stalks celery, finely chopped (we like celery and the texture)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 ¼ cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons rubbed sage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Step 1
Allow the toasted bread to sit approximately 18 hr, until hard

Step 2
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or if you are serving many, use a roaster oven (I multiply the recipe x 4 for the roaster oven). This is our favorite way to cook it!

Step 3
Cut the bread up in cubes with a knife. Place the crumbs in a large bowl.

Step 4
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion and celery and slowly cook until soft. Remove from heat and drain.

Step 5
Mix the eggs and chicken broth into the bread crumbs. The mixture should be moist (not mushy). Mix in the onion, celery, rubbed sage, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Step 6
Bake 1 hour or until the top is brown and crisp or if using a roaster oven bake at 250 for approximately 2-3 hours

Valentine’s Minions Party Treats and Printable

VALENTINE’S MINIONS PARTY TREATS & PRINTABLE CARD 

Believe it or not, I do have a creative side to me and do more than just coupon 🙂 Our kids love to make up special treats for their parties and we thought this would be a fun one to do for Valentine’s Day. These tasty treats are cute and easy to make. You will need yellow melts, marshmallows (we used the campfire size and the large ones), candy eyes, sucker sticks, black frosting or gel frosting, blue fruit rollups, treat bags, and blue and yellow ribbon. We also included this very cute Printable Minions Despicable Me Card that we specially designed for this snack.

You will first slowly melt the yellow chocolates either in the microwave or on the stovetop.  Once they are completely melted, place the marshmallow on the stick and dip it into the melt until fully covered. You can use a butter knife to smooth the chocolate and remove the excess. Add the blue fruit rollup to the bottom and the eye(s) while the chocolate is still soft. It will take about 5 minutes for the chocolate to set. Once it has set, you can add the frosting for the face and around the eyes. 

These Minion treats could be used for any party.  I am thinking about making them up for our FREE community dinner to hand out to the kids.  You can substitute the Twinkies for the marshmallow and chocolate.  I love the message of the card, it makes everyone feel special.  

As with any treat, include the kids, be creative, and just have FUN 🙂  Remember our kids are only little for a short time so enjoy every moment with them!

CHRISTmas Idea for Teachers, etc: Cookies in a jar!!

This year we decided to make cookies in a jar for our kids’  teachers as their CHRISTmas gift.  It was super easy and so much fun to do with the kids.  In addition we will be doing these on Monday for the 365 Days of Kindness and giving to our mail lady and some other people in our community to show our appreciation for them.  We made both the gingerbread cookies and the M&M cookie jars.  I will attach both recipes and a PDF printable that you can attach to both items. We got the Gingerbread Cutout at Joann’s Fabric for ONLY $0.99!!   I also used a piping bag as a funnel to pour the ingredients into the jar!

Here are the directions for the Gingerbread Cookie in a Jar

In a one-quart mason jar, layer in the ingredients in the following order, packing down each layer:

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar

Secure the lid and tie on instructions along with a cookie cutter, if desired.

Instructions:

Cream together 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), 3/4 cup molasses and 1 egg. Blend in the Gingerbread Cookie Mix. Stir until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Roll out dough to 1/4″ on a lightly floured surface. Using cookie cutters, cut out shapes and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Here are the directions for the M&M Cookies in a Jar

**IMPORTANT: Please note you will have to pack the items down very well or they will not all fit. I found that out the hard way. . so after putting in each item, pack, pack, pack:)

In a one-quart mason jar, layer in the ingredients in the following order, packing down each layer:

Layer the ingredients in the mason jar like this (AGAIN BE SURE TO PACK DOWN EACH INGREDIENT)

  •  1 1/3 cup all purpose flour, spooned into measuring cup & leveled, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cooking oats
  • 3/4 cup m&ms
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • Chopped pecans if you have room (which I did not and I have made 5 so far, LOL:)

Reindeer Hot Cocoa Recipe!!

This year we have decided to make more fun gifts for our kids’ teachers.  One of them is the Reindeer Hot Cocoa.  It was so much fun for them to make and they are actually pretty stinkin’ cute:)  We used our homemade hot cooca and will include the recipe for you. We included a card and on the back added the directions “Just pour it all in a cup of hot water and enjoy!!”  The bag is actually a icing (piping bag) and can be found at most stores in their baking aisles!!

Reindeer Hot Cocoa Directions 
Put hot cocoa in bottom
Add miniature Nestle Morsels
Then add small marshmallows
Now tie off at top and add a CHRISTmas tag with directions typed on back of how to serve.
Also add a nose and 2 eyes. Super easy

Hot Cocoa Recipe:

  • 1 Box Nonfat Dry Milk (Makes 8 Quarts)
  • 1 – 1# Box Nestle Quick
  • 1 – 6 oz. Nondairy creamer
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Thanksgiving Turkey Cheese Ball Recipe!!

As you all know, we love holiday-themed dishes and with Thanksgiving around the corner we decided to share one of our favorite go-tos. This classic cheese ball, dressed up as a turkey, is quick, tasty, and very cute.

All you need are a few ingredients and about 10 minutes of time

  • 2 blocks of cream cheese
  • 4-5 oz of sliced beef
  • 1 bunch of green onions
  • 1/2 Tsp of season salt
  • 1 Tsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • Handful of thick pretzel sticks
  • Your favorite crackers

Start by allowing the cream cheese to become room temperature. Next chop up the beef and the green onions. Then, in a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and the season salt.

Once well blended, mix in the beef and onions and roll into a ball.

Place the ball in the middle of your serving dish and place the pretzel sticks around the back to look like feathers, using 1 stick for the neck. Here is where your creativity comes into play.  Normally we would use a candy corn for the turkeys beak, however, at the time of this post our stores were sold out. With that said, we went with a triangular cut piece of colby jack cheese applied with a spot of cream cheese.

Finish by nesting your creation with your favorite crackers and Voilà!! A delicious chopped beef Thanksgiving Turkey Cheese Ball sure to be a hit with your holiday guests.

CUTE HALLOWEEN TREATS – MONSTER MOUTH RECIPE!!

Are you looking for some cute Halloween Treat Ideas to do with your kids?  This is one the kids can pretty much do by themselves once the apples are cut and cored. Our kids love putting them together almost as much as eating them. We have found that no Halloween Party is complete without a plate of these NO Bake 3 Ingredient Apple Teeth or as we call them “Monster Mouths”.  All you need is Peanut Butter, Marshmallows, and Apples (you pick the color)  This is a guilt-free treat and they are pretty cute 🙂 They’re ideal for Halloween or  October Birthday Parties.  We have step by step instructions below.  

Also, if you are interested in replacing the marshmallows, here are a few other suggestions:  

  • Peeled Almonds
  • Jelly Beans
  • Candy Corn
  • Yogurt Covered Raisins
