If you have been following my blog long, you know my faith is what keeps me going. I know we serve a mighty God. I have learned that there are no coincidences in life, but only GOD-INCIDENCES. This is the story of my family and how bullying has affected us and how I believe God placed Special K (Mr. Kevin Daley) of the Harlem Globetrotters in our life.
This is a picture of our family. . Jamie and I have 7 children; 3 through birth and 4 through adoption.. . You see color never mattered to us, because we are ALL GOD’S CREATION, his masterpiece, and honestly we couldn’t believe that racism still existed until we endured it with our son, Isaiah. He has been bullied significantly. In 2nd and 3rd grade the kids played “Keep the Ball away from Brownie”. He was called the “N” word on multiple occasions and was even told that his black parents didn’t love him that is why he had white parents. You see as his parents, not only does your child hurt, but you feel their every pain. We moved schools in our district to get away from the bullying as we felt the school was doing little to address the problem and after the move things were AWESOME. Well this year he started Jr. High and unfortunately the kids from that previous school combined with the Jr. High that he attends, so the bullying has begun again. He has been called the “N” word again and “brownie”. On Wednesday he came home from school after snow was thrown in his face and he was being pushed around before the bus arrived. He walked in the door and was trembling and crying, his glasses still a mess from the snow and papers being thrown at him. My heart hurt for him. We prayed and then I headed to the school to address the situation. To me, face to face, is more important than an email. Also when I got home I tweeted about it. . and that is where my heart has melted and now I will back track a little.
A few months ago I received this notification
I was like “Wow, that’s pretty cool Special K is following me. . a Harlem Globetrotter”. Well of course I had to follow him back, LOL:) He is one of Isaiah’s favorite people or Isaiah’s heros. I can remember thinking to myself, God has something up his sleeve, hahahaha . . .and then on Wednesday I reached out to him for advice on how to handle the situation. I wanted to glorify God, but mine and Jamie’s hearts were breaking too. We knew we needed to show Isaiah you still pray for your enemies even as hard as it was, but we knew it was the right thing. As the Bible says it is easy to pray for your friends, but it is hard to pray for our enemies, but that is what we are called to do. We have spent much time in prayer for the kids bullying Isaiah too. What transpired in the last few days is more than I can even express. When we received the tweet that “maybe he could call Isaiah” I was humbled. I immediately said THANK YOU JESUS and then recalled three months ago when he started following me thinking “God has something up his sleeve”. You see God knew we would need Special K. God knew he was going to place him in our path and that he would do a mighty work in Isaiah and he did tonight. He has blessed Isaiah so much. He has encouraged him and he has lifted his spirit.
This is Isaiah on the phone with Kevin Daley (Special K) from the Harlem Globetrotters. He was so excited.
He told Isaiah if he ever wanted to talk to him he could call him – now that is SWEET and that meant so much to Isaiah. You see our words have so much power. . to either build someone up or break them down. He told Isaiah to always be brave and hold his head up. When he called Isaiah said “Hi, Mr. Daley” and he said Thanks buddy for calling me Mr. Daley, but you can call me Kevin or Special K. He also asked if Isaiah had friends and then told him he was his friend too. . . now that just completely helped his self-esteem:) I am also asking every single one of you that has a twitter account to tweet him @MrTrotter21 and thank him for caring about Isaiah and taking a stance to #STOPBULLYING. I don’t want him to think for a minute we take his phone call for granted. I want him to know that this matters and he impacted Isaiah so much. Can you imagine being 12 and one of your “heros” calling you. Isaiah cried when he hung up and I said why are you crying buddy and he said “Because I’m so happy. . I can’t believe he called me mom”. To think how much that impacted Isaiah. I know he is busy and he took the time to care. . to call. . to take a stance against bullying BUT to me he cared about our son, Isaiah. . WOW!! Thank you Jesus.
Please lets show our appreciation to him so he knows what he is doing has an impact!!! My son’s heart is full of joy tonight and all we have been seeing is heartache and tears.
Also, as parents there are so many things we teach our kids, but I honestly think one of the biggest things we can teach our kids is about bullying. How to prevent it, how to intervene, and how to stand up for those being bullied. This needs to stop. So many kids commit suicide because they are picked on. . we need to teach our kids to take a stance and #STOPBULLYING. If they see a child sitting in the cafeteria alone, we need to let them know they need to be the kid to go sit with them. We also need to teach them to pray for the ones bullying, because it is obvious they are hurting too and that is why they are bullying.
Also, our kids have many “famous people” they look up to and many sports figure (famous) that they look up to, BUT Special K. . Mr. Kevin Daley in my book is a class act. He is a man that not only talks about bullying, but does it when he is not in the spotlight. He is walking the walk and for that I will support HIM 100%. I am cheap (well yea, that’s why I coupon LOL), but I would spend the money to go see Special K and the Harlem Globetrotters, because this is one man that I am proud Isaiah looks up to and quite honestly, he is OUR HERO TOO. When you don’t understand what God is doing. . . let him be in control .. three months ago Special K came into our lives and I know it was all planned by God and we are so thankful and blessed by his generosity and kindness. I know he has impacted Isaiah far greater than he will ever know!! Thank you Mr. Kevin Daley, you are a class act and we LOVE YOU!!
And as I was finishing up this post, this is the tweet I received from him. .Mr. Daley if you read this. . know you are our HERO AND WE LOVE YOU for what you did tonight for our son. . THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!!
GOD IS GOOD. . . ALL THE TIME!!

Small world. We just met “Buckets” today and he showed my boys some basketball tricks. We are going to go watch them play ball on the 13th of March. How fun! (They have us 6 free tickets.)
