Grocery Store Sales Cycle Guide
You may ask, what are the grocery store sales cycle and why is it important? We are all looking at ways to save money on the many things we purchase and use yearly. Knowing the store’s sales strategies in advance can help us accomplish this to maximize our savings throughout the year. For example, health and diet products are on sale in January as many people are making New Year’s Resolutions to live healthier lives. In addition, cleaning products are always on sale for the lowest prices during the spring, because many of us are preparing for spring cleaning. This makes it a good time to stock up on these items for the entire year paying pennies on the dollar for products that we use often throughout the year. Winter clothing, coats, boots, and CHRISTmas decorations, i.e. lights, wrapping paper, holiday scented candles are always on clearance after CHRISTmas upwards of 75-90% off. If you’re like our family you know when you pull out those CHRISTmas lights from the previous year, many are no longer working. So you have two options, you can head out and pay full price during the holiday or pray that a sale happens quickly. Or your second option is to be intentional and purchase them after CHRISTmas, which will be a huge discount and also save your family the frustration accompanying the CHRISTmas light nightmare 🙂 So having access to all this information including sale cycles, clearance items, and more allows you to plan the year ahead and save on those inevitable hits to your wallet.
For this reason, I have made a month-by-month spreadsheet to help alert you to upcoming monthly sale cycles. This will help you make an educated shopping plan and see what items to stock up on each month.
Here are a few examples of how the spreadsheet is broken down:
- National Holidays – These holidays coincide with substantial discounts, Here are a few examples.
February – National Hot Breakfast Month – Waffles, pancake mix, & hashbrowns
May – Memorial Day – Hotdogs, drinks, snack foods
July – 4th of July – Baked beans, condiments, BBQ sauce, hamburger/hotdog buns, and more
August – Back to School – School Supplies, backpacks, hand sanitizer, lunch box foods, snacks, and juice boxes
October – Halloween – Candy and sweet treats
- Foods on Sale – This is a list of all the items that you can find for the cheapest prices of the year at the grocery store.
- Seasonal Produce – This is a list of what produce is in season and will be at its lowest price.
- Seasonal Sale Items/Clearance – This is a list of all the items that will be on sale or on clearance after holidays, i.e. Easter baskets and Easter Dresses in March/April, summer clothing and outdoor furniture, grills in July/August, and Halloween costumes in November,
