Do you all have a gift closet or do you know what one is? If not or if you are not sure what it is, here is a brief explanation! When I can save at least 50-75% or more on toys, clothing, etc (especially when they are on clearance) I stock up on these items. These are then items that my kids can use for Birthday parties or other gift exchange type of events and even allows them to be extra generous at CHRISTmas time and give to less fortunate kids. This saves us so much money because we already have the gift for them to give to friends when they get invited to these parties and we have usually saved at least 75% of these gifts. When you until you get that invite and then have to go out to purchase a gift, you tend to spend soooooo much more money as many of the products you will purchase will not be on sale and/or clearance.
Tips for buying ahead:
- NEVER go in to debt to purchase gifts ahead of time (or anytime)!
- Make sure the item you are purchasing is worth the money you are going to spend. Just because an item says it is 75% off, does not make it a great deal. Make sure it is really worth that much money or even check out reviews on Amazon or other sites to verify it is a good deal if you are not sure.
- Buy the classics toys such as Lego’s, Barbies, or other brands you and your kids personally love that most kids will love too, that you know will still be “in” for next season.
- You don’t have to actually use a closet to put the gifts in, rubbermaid totes work just GREAT also!!
Try it out and let me know what you think of the “gift closet”!!

I have 2 boys & last year target had coupons for transformer toys that I was able to score for free or for a $1.00 a piece. Even after giving transformers to all our nephews for their birthdays, christmas stocking stuffers and the angel giving tree at our church, I still have a CLOSET full of transformers. I love having little items like band aids, coloring books and crayons on hand for all purpose gifts. Thanks for all of your great ideas on this website!
