What Does Kindness Mean? I think this is a question that so many of us have different variations of the meaning, but when we see Acts of Kindness, it just makes one happy and full of joy. Yes, we feel it. We want to be a part of it. In the last few weeks, I have seen a number of viral random acts of kindness videos. I watch them, tear up, and think WOW. I think it restores so much Hope in mankind. We see so much negativity on the news, but when we see these random acts of kindness stories, it just fills my heart with Joy.
How many of you have watched the videos and felt that overwhelming sense of joy? There are so many youtube videos out there right now and here are 2 of my absolute favorite kindness videos. The first one is from bejapy e.v.
Now tell me, you didn’t think that act of kindness was simply AWESOME!!
This next youtube video is a Sam Pepper Video. I think I like this one so much, because it shows how generous the homeless man is compared to so many others, yet he has the least of all of them and he was willing to give up his pizza to share with a stranger.
Do you all see a common theme in these videos? It involves giving to someone who is struggling. Someone that is going through a tough time. Someone that so many look down on or judge them. Do you see another common theme? The generosity of the less fortunate people. The Huffington Post did a story that showed Poor Americans Give More of Their Income to Charity Than The Rich. In 2001, Independent Sector, a nonprofit organization focused on charitable giving, found that households earning less than $25,000 a year gave away an average of 4.2 percent of their incomes; those with earnings of more than $75,000 gave away 2.7 percent. Statistics also show that people with lower incomes are more happy than the wealthy. Every survey has different reasons for this, but I believe one of the biggest reasons is that they are full of compassion. They know what it means to go without, to be hungry. They also don’t have the stress of needing the biggest or best of everything. They have a contentment about them.
How many of you have read random acts of kindness stories and thought WOW, how cool is that? How many of you have thought, I would love to do something, but I don’t have the money or the time? Well, I am here to tell you that many random acts of kindness don’t cost anything, they just require our time. How many of you know the song Do Something by Matthew West? If not, please take a moment to listen to the words of this song.
You see God did create us to make a difference in this world. We were created to Do Something. We are to have eyes and ears like Jesus, when we see or hear a need, we need to Do Something, RIGHT NOW (with God’s direction)! This song also says, “So tired of talking about how we are God’s hands and feet, but it’s easier to say than to lead. .. it’s alright somebody else will do something”, but we need to be the ones to stand up and do something. What are we waiting for? Standing still, doesn’t change anything. We have the power to be the change that we want to see in the world. There truly is something about being around people that care more about others more than themselves. Matthew 25:40 says “”The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” It doesn’t say to give to get a pat on the back, or give to see the reaction of others, because truly when we give, as scripture says, we are really giving to Jesus. What that person does with our generosity is between them and God. All we can do is be obedient to God’s word and serve.
