I am so humbled how God used ALL of us for the Slipper Project. When I received the email from Missy (social worker), I knew instantly that God had lined this all up. I KNEW this was something he wanted us to do. Here is the original email we received “I’m the social worker at Glenwood Elementary in Toledo as well as a reader of your blog. Our students are presenting a Christmas play “Twas One Crazy Night Before Christmas” on Friday, December 20. We have 14 students who are doing a special dance to “Slippers Again For Christmas.” The song speaks of how they don’t want slippers again for Christmas. Ironically, our students who live in the inner city, don’t even own slippers that they can wear for the show. Would you be able to help us bless and surprise 14 kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students with a pair of slippers that they’ll be able to have for their very own and wear in the show? The students would be so excited!” This touched my heart so deeply as we have been doing a MIRACLE CHRISTmas party for 16 years and our first year the one little girl opened her package of new socks and said in the most excited voice “Look mom, just what I always wanted my own socks”. She had mismatched socks that were clearly to large for her on her feet and this melted my heart. When we received this email it took me back to that time and I thought, what a cool thing to be involved in and how humbling to think they reached out to me. As I was telling Jamie about it, I had the biggest smile on my face and he started smiling. . I said “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”. He said “Stompeez Slippers.” We both laughed and decided, yes, slippers would be a blessing, but lets go above and get something extraordinary to show these kids just how special they are. I couldn’t hardly sleep last night because I was so excited to drop them off, then Missy emailed me this morning to ask if we wanted to hand deliver them to the children. I was overjoyed and so excited. I felt like a little kid on CHRISTmas morning. Then as we are driving them, I found out channel 13 news was going to be there as well, hahahaha. When we arrived we had the sweetest welcome from the school and then they took us in the music room where we met Missy (who is absolutely adorable). I told her I thought I was more excited than the kids and she laughed and said she was excited too. She went and got the kids after lunch and when they came in the room and saw the slippers, they were ecstatic. It was sheer excitement. My heart melted and my eyes overflowed with tears as I saw their faces.
Missy had put their names on the boxes so they were all looking for their name. As they received them, they came right over to me and Jamie and hugged us and just kept thanking us. It was touching. The one little girl told Jamie “I wish I could take these home.” and she was told she could. . . the one little boy ran in and said “This is awesome”. To see the excitement in their eyes. To see how blessed they were by this gift. It is so cool to see how so many of you helped us make this possible. That is what I love about the blog and this FB page. None of us can help everyone, but all of us can help someone, and when we do we serve Jesus. These kids were thrilled, they could hardly wait to perform their song for us and they couldn’t thank us enough. The emotions Jamie and I felt were overwhelming. As they performed and were looking at their slippers and each others slippers I cried. I cried tears of joy thinking each of these slippers were prayed over and each of these children were so proud to be wearing those slippers; something so many of us take for granted. Then as we were leaving the one little girl hugged me so tight and said “Can I go home with you?” I am humbled how God has used us and I am humbled how each of you have stepped up on so many occasions to help us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I surely hope you enjoy looking at these pictures and they bring as much joy to you as they do to me!! Thank you to everyone who made a monetary donation, picked up a pair of slippers, or prayed over the slipper project. I am confident God was glorified and be sure to watch Channel 13 News tonight and you will see those precious kids performing with their AWESOME, EXTRAORDINARY STOMPEEZ SLIPPERS!!!! THANK YOU JESUS!! GOD IS GOOD. . . ALL THE TIME!!
