FREE LAUNDRY PROJECT – 11/1/14 – THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
Wow what an amazing day! Serving others is one of the greatest things we can do in our life. This FREE Laundry Project that we started in February has become such a wonderful outreach, not only for those receiving but for those of us serving. It is so cool to watch God at work. I knew it was going to be busy when we received a text from Sargeant Gillen before we even arrived that people were lined up!!
What so many of us take for granted (doing our laundry) is a luxury to so many families. It truly is an amazing thing to watch the expressions on people’s faces as they arrive and wonder what they have to do to receive this FREE gift and we tell them nothing. There aren’t many FREE gifts in lifeso to be able to share that Jesus is a FREE gift also is super cool.
Today was a bit more hectic than usual as we had many, many people lined up upon our arrival and 5 of our volunteers did not show up, which was a concern. We just knew that God would provide in a mighty way and we needed to trust in him. We started out in prayer as always. This has become my favorite part as not only those of us volunteering but so many of the families coming to get their laundry done join in also.
As soon as prayer ended, Danielle started calling names and assigning people to their washing machines. We had to improvise somewhat since we were short on volunteers, but that is the coolest thing of all, everyone is willing to serve wherever they are needed. Our friend from Columbus, Tom, came up today to help (his wife, Dawn, had to work today), but he brought up a ton of Panera bread so we were able to not only wash clothes but feed people also ~ super cool.
I think for me one of the coolest things is the friendships that have been formed during all of our outreaches. Also just as we were getting really worried about volunteers, two of Vanessa’s friends showed up to help ~ THANK YOU JESUS!!!! I don’t think I have ever hugged someone so tight LOL. . yes, God’s timing is perfect. . . we just have to trust!! We were able to do 120+ loads of clothes today, that includes washing, drying, folding, and Nick even helped a lady carry her stuff to her house, now that is a servant’s heart and that is what being the hands and feet of Jesus is all about. I cannot even begin to thank all the volunteers enough. Nick, Julie, and Tiffany were the power dryers. They had a system down and were folding people’s clothing.
It was a wonderful thing to watch. Vanessa, Julie, Tom, Tony, Joey, Teresa, Anna, and Tim were doing all the washing and they did a great job. It is just amazing watching everyone interact and fellowship. Sargeant Tony and Officer Jim (Below) are amazing men of God and we love them more than words can even express. God has brought all of us together for a greater cause and that is serving his Kingdom and all the glory goes to him and him alone. None of today was about any of us, but all about God.
Thank you to everyone who donated, prayed, or volunteered today. None of this is possible without all of you and we hope you know how much you are appreciated. A special thank you to Charlie’s Soap for once again providing laundry detergent for this event.
Many lives are being impacted because so many of you care for others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My prayer continues to be that God would bless each and everyone of you. I love you guys so much!!!
