Random Acts of Kindness – #DoSomethingSummer
Many of you have probably heard that song by Matthew West, Do Something. It is an amazing song and hear are a few of the lyrics to Do Something
I woke up this morning
Saw a world full of trouble now
Thought, how’d we ever get so far down
How’s it ever gonna turn around
So I turned my eyes to Heaven
I thought, “God, why don’t You do something?”
Well, I just couldn’t bear the thought of
People living in poverty
Children sold into slavery
The thought disgusted me
So, I shook my fist at Heaven
Said, “God, why don’t You do something?”
He said, “I did, I created you”
Yes, he created us to do something and I take that challenge seriously. Today was our 4th FREE Laundry Day and honestly I don’t even know where to begin. This day was AMAZING. As we prepare for these FREE Laundry Days we just NEVER know what to expect, but I can tell you that today was like no other. To sit back and watch God at work is sometimes overwhelming (in a good way). We did close to 74 loads today and many people are following us to the different laundromats to get their laundry done.
Each laundromat is unique in so many ways and I just want to put a Huge Thank you out to Kristi and her husband, owners of Reynolds Laundromat, and Josh and Josh. Everyone pitched in today, from going out and helping people bring their clothes in to washing, to drying, folding, and taking clean clothes back out to the cars. We even had a special helper today, Chris Vickers, from Channel 11.
Sargent Tony, TPD, who has been helping us at all our events brought his wife, Terri today, and what a huge blessing she was. This event is not about me or Jamie or any of the volunteers, but this event is all about serving Jesus. . . being the image of Christ. Showing kindness and the love of Jesus to others and I think everyone that comes in would know they are loved. My oldest daughter, Ciera, and niece, Chelsea, helped today and it was amazing. Words truly cannot even express my emotions. I look around and think WOW only God could orchestrate something like this. So many friendships being formed and such a cool way to give back to our community. What some of us may take for granted, doing laundry, for others it is a luxury, but because so many of you believe in what we do, this becomes possible and all the glory to God. My favorite part is always the prayer before we start.
The best part is EVERYONE joins in, even the people coming to get their laundry clean and that is how it is supposed to be. I know lives are being impacted by these laundry days and I cannot thank God enough for providing the resources every time to make it happen, all for his Glory! We were able to help many families today and I love that we have goodies (cupcakes, cookies, bottled water, bagged chips, etc to serve people also). What I think we all need to remember is no act of kindness is too small or big. When God places something on your heart, we just need to trust him and believe in faith that it will come to be. We have done 4 FREE Laundry days now and over 400 loads of laundry. Thank you all for believing in the vision, making donations, volunteering, and praying. You see it takes all of these things to take place for these things to happen and all is just as important as the other!!
I love you guys and am already excited for the next one in October. GOD IS GOOD. . . ALL THE TIME!!
