Many of you already know the story of our son, Jonah, but those of you that don’t, I will give a brief version of the story, to Read Jonah’s Complete Story ~ A Story of Hope – CLICK HERE! Our son, Jonah, is adopted. We received the phone call from CSB when he was five days old and they informed us it would likely be for a permanent placement; meaning we would be able to adopt him. We agreed and when we arrived at SVMMC, we were informed, he was drug exposed and actually life-flighted to our trauma center. His drug levels were so high they couldn’t believe he lived. Jonah had withdrawal seizures and at 2 months old, our pediatric neurologist did an MRI and other test and informed us Jonah had a stroke at birth and then diagnosed him with cerebral palsy. He informed us it was likely Jonah would never walk or talk and for us to decide if we wanted to adopt him knowing what could be the outcome. Well, we didn’t have to think about it at all, as we knew God had placed Jonah in our family and he was our son. Under the direction of his neurologist we placed soccer balls in front of Jonah and that is where his love of soccer came. Jonah is a lefty and his right side was very weak. We had many pray over Jonah and his prognosis and Jonah plays competitive soccer on a traveling team (the best team) a year up, so God answered our prayers. His right side has always been very weak due to the stroke and for that reason we decided to put him in physical therapy this summer just to see if we could get some results. We were not sure what to expect, but again this is nothing but a miracle. Jonah plays soccer with a boy whose parents are both physical therapist and they have a family-owned business. After talking to Doug for about a year we decided it was time to try it. First, I will add Doug and Michelle are Christians, which is huge to us 🙂 Doug also played college soccer so he understood what exercises to do with Jonah to strengthen his muscles. Doug has been working very extensively with Jonah and we are amazed at the results. For the first time since Jonah has played soccer, he can actually kick the ball with his right foot with great strength. Today at his soccer game, he had three shots on goal with this right foot and they were strong kicks. His coach from last year was in attendance and acknowledged how strong Jonah’s right side is now, which is very exciting to us.
