Prayers for Jonah – A Father’s Love
Two tired boys – love this pic so much! Reminds me of the love our Heavenly Father has for us. He is right beside us, holding our hands no matter what we are facing. This has been difficult and I know we have a long road with his health BUT we know God is in control!
As many of you know, our son, Jonah, is having some major cardiac issues. It started a few months back with severe chest pains during soccer practice. Our pediatrician ordered some testing, EKG and echo, which were both abnormal. From there they did a stress test and then he had his first heart cath that showed narrowing in the coronary sinus. Yesterday, he had to undergo another cardiac cath, this time through the neck, to take measurements of his pressures and pictures of the coronary sinus both with his heart resting and under stress (increased heart rate). The procedure that was supposed to take 30 minutes ended up taking over 3 hours with them having to call another surgeon over to help due to the narrowing being so significant. They have found that his pressures increase significantly when his heart is under stress and the narrowing is narrower than they anticipated. For this, Jonah will now have to have a cardiac MRI to see what is causing the narrowing and then possible open heart surgery. We have been in contact with the doctors at U of M Mott’s Children’s Hospital and so blessed that one of the parents from Jonah’s soccer team is good friends with the Head of Pediatric Cardiology up there. Talking about God’s favor and hand in all of this. We are asking for your continued prayers for Jonah’s health and healing. We know that God is the Great Physician and he can heal his body completely. It has been very overwhelming for us and we have been on an emotional rollercoaster, but we have remained faithful knowing God has plans for Jonah’s life.
Yesterday was very straining on both, Jamie and myself. As parents it is hard to see your child hurt. We were told it would only take 30 minutes and as the minutes, half hours, hours ticked away we both became overwhelmed with emotions. I received a few messages saying “You need to remain strong, you cannot break down. Jonah needs you. Keep your faith and that led me to this post.
NEWS FLASH – I am a mom and a STRONG Christian but I CAN break down, it doesn’t mean I don’t have faith. I cannot be STRONG all the time. Even Jamie is breaking down – it doesn’t make us weak – it makes us human and why we need our Heavenly Father! As Christians, we often want to tell other Christians how they need to respond, but as a Christian, we have emotions too. I am here to tell you, it is okay to breakdown. Even Jesus wept. We need to become less, so He can become more and if that means we breakdown, then that does not mean our faith is lacking, it means we need Jesus to be more at that moment. It also reminds us as much as we Love Jonah, God loves him EVEN more. Think of the pain he felt when his son died on the cross. I am transparent and am not afraid to ask for prayers, tell others when I feel weak, so I can be lifted in prayer. We are told to carry each other’s burdens. This is a time that we appreciate all of you praying us through this difficult time. We know God’s will, will be done for Jonah and our family.
Thank you in advance for praying for Jonah and our family. It is appreciated more than you will ever know. We appreciate each and everyone of you. Love you all bunches!!
